History Of Crestview Baptist Church

Crestview is the only church in Haywood County that was formed as a missionary church and not a split from another church. In 1959 the Haywood Baptist Association Mission Committee seen a need to have a church in the Osborne Farm Area. With the assistance of several Canton First Baptist Members & the association, Crestview Missionary Church was organized. A garage building on the Upper End of Osborne Ridge was to be used. The Baptist Association had a pre-fabricated building, which was moved to the sight to be used as Sunday School rooms.
On April 1st, 1962 the first worship service was given by Associational Missionary Rev. Wayne Sorrells. Forty-three people were in attendance.
In 1964 the Old Osborne Dairy & Home Sight was purchased to build a church. Construction began and was completed the same year. In 1965 Crestview Missionary Church was organized into what is now Crestview Baptist Church with 87 charter members. Rev. Wayne Sorrells resigned as missionary and became the first Pastor. Forty-three of those eighty-seven charter members are still living. Thirteen of those forty-three are still actively serving at Crestview.
The present sanctuary and Sunday School rooms were built in 1986.
Our Crestview Family has grown to 493 members, 184 who are actively serving. Crestview will celebrate 50 Years in 2009.
